Biography

Irene de Boer is a medical professional with a background in research, patient care, and education. She obtained her Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences and Medicine from Leiden University and is currently finishing her PhD project at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). As part of her PhD research, De Boer is investigating the role of genetics in migraine (see www.hoofdpijnonderzoek.nl/en/)  and the clinical spectrum of associated hereditary disorders, such as RVCL-S (see www.rvcls.com).

In addition to her research work, Irene works at the headache outpatient clinic and the Cerebral Hereditary Angiopathy outpatient clinic, where she gained valuable experience in working with patients and their families. Furthermore, she is passionate about education and regularly teaches  (bio)medical students at Leiden University.

Irene is the Chair of the Junior Group and a member of the Women’s Leadership forum and the Scientific and Research Committee. She feels strongly about promoting equal career opportunities for all (young) professionals in the headache field.
