• July 2024: Teva Announces First Phase 3 Evidence of Efficacy and Safety of an Anti-CGRP Monoclonal Antibody in Children in AJOVY® (fremanezumab) SPACE Trial for Prevention of Episodic Migraine

  Teva has announced the positive topline results from the Phase 3 SPACE study evaluating fremanezumab for the prevention of EM in patients aged 6-17 years. This really marks a significant milestone as the SPACE trial is the first to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of an anti-CGRP monoclonal antibody for pediatric migraine in a Phase 3 setting.

  The study met its primary endpoint, showing a statistically significant reduction in monthly migraine days compared to placebo. Notably, the safety profile observed was consistent with adult studies and no new safety signals were identified.

• July 2024: Atogepant is effective in participants with chronic migraine, with and without acute medication overuse

  An article authored by Professor Peter J Goadsby and colleagues has shown that atogepant is effective in participants with chronic migraine, with and without acute medication overuse, as evidenced by reductions in mean MMDs, MHDs, and acute medication use days; reductions in the proportion of participants meeting acute medication overuse criteria; and improvements in PROs.

  The Phase III randomised, double-blind PROGRESS study compared 30 mg atogepant vs placebo in 500 participants over a 12-week period.

  There was a 52.1-61.9% reduction in the proportion of atogepant-treated participants meeting acute medication overuse criteria over 12 weeks and atogepant improved patient reported outcomes. Similar results were observed in the subgroup without acute medication overuse.

• May 2024: Early treatment with anti-CGRP monoclonal antibodies enhances response in the real world

  The largest real-world study of migraine patients treated with anti-CGRP MAbs to date has provided evidence that higher migraine frequency and greater disability at baseline reduce the likelihood of responding to anti-CGRP MAbs. This highlights the need for earlier treatment to offer the best chance of treatment success.

  5818 patients with median 20 monthly headache days were included; >72% had a diagnosis of chronic migraine. Following 6 months of CGRP mAb treatment, 57% had ≥50% reduction in MHD, and 27%)had ≥75% reduction.
